Mongolia NGO Launches Communication App for Disabled People

A Mongolian non-governmental organization announced Monday that it has launched a special-purpose mobile portal for communication of disabled people in Mongolia for the first time.

This app was created by Bird Developers (NGO), with the aim to facilitate communication of disabled people, protect their rights, support them, and provide inclusive education of children with disabilities.

The idea was initiated by ‘Autism Mongolia – And’ and ‘Autism Association of Mongolia’ NGOs. Accordingly they raised funds for creation the special-purpose app for disabled people.

The “Bird 1.0” (‘Shuvuu 1.0’) available on both iOS and Android devices, allows users to post more than 230 words. In addition, the users can enrich the vocabulary and imagery of the app fitting their needs.

This app can be used by up to 30,000 people at a time and it will be improved year after year by adding new words and images, developers said.

As of the first quarter of this year, there are over 120,000 people with disabilities in Mongolia, including people with Down syndrome and autism, according to statistics cited by Xinhua.
